Crystal Palace Shops

One of the things we found when clearing out was a little notebook issued by the Upper Norwood Chamber of Commerce. On the end pages there was some information about the history of Upper Norwood and useful information about the area. All the other pages had the name of a business and its location and then space for notes.

Cover of booklet
Shown above - the cover. Shown below the first and last pages.

Inside cover describing history of Upper Norwood
Useful information such as telepphone numbers for cottage hospital
The fact that there is no mention of the High Level Station and that there is mention of the Caravan Harbour (site) implies this dates from the mid/late 1950s. In those days there has early closing of shops at 1pm on Wednesdays - modern trading tends to be all day every day!

As an example of the pages for notes, here are the pages referring to the premises now used by Blue Door Bicycles.

Pages headed 'Memorandum' and then showing the addresses of Tele-Tech and HJ Talbot and Son moped and cycle stores

Businesses listed were as follows shown in address order, not how they were lsited in the booket. I have tried to say what the shops are now, but may have got some of them wrong!):
